Macy on Re-Animator Sequel Status

Out promoting the Hollywood satire The Deal at the Sundance Film Festival, actor William Macy gave ShockTillYouDrop.com an update on his involvement in the long-mooted House of Re-Animator. “Yeah, I’m still a part of it. Stuart Gordon…he works slowly but surely,” he says.

In the fourth chapter chronicling the exploits of Herbert West, Macy is committed to play the President of the United States. West, played by Jeffrey Combs, would be called to the White House to “revive” the V.P. - at least that was an early plot hatched by Gordon and Brian Yuzna.

Having starred in Gordon’s Edmond, are there any plans for the actor and director to reunite for a non-”Re-Animator” outing - perhaps another Mamet adaptation? “No, he’s got lots of things in the works,” says Macy. “I think my next project is going to be directing a film, my directorial debut, it’s called Keep Coming Back, I’m just waiting for one movie star, everything else is in place.”

Vinnie Jones as a terrifying brutal serial killer? Perish the thought!

We’ve mentioned this title in the past and for good reason: it’s an adaptation of one of Clive Barker’s very bloody short stories. Clive himself is listed as one of the producers, concept art looks suitably gruesome and Ryuhei Kitamura (of “Versus” fame) is the director.

The story concerns photographer Leon, played by Bradley Cooper, who is looking for increasingly more ‘gritty’ material. Leon thinks he’s found the perfect subject and starts to follow serial killer Mahogany (yep, Vinnie Jones) who stalks and butchers lone passengers on the noctornal rides of the London Subway.
Which would be creepy enough in itself, but when Leon discovers the horrific truth behind Mahogany’s actions things get really bizarre…

Ryuhei Kitamura can be hit-or-miss (and sometimes both at the same time) but he knows his gore and can deliver on flashy visuals. It’ll be interesting to see how he’ll handle the rather ‘normal’ first half the movie would have if they follow the story.

Cameras Fire Up for Brazil’s Beyond the Grave

The producers of the Brazilian production Beyond the Grave (Porto dos Mortos), Lockheart Filmes, informed us principal photography begins next month in Porto Alegre under the direction of Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro.

Described as a horror-fantasy, Pinheiro’s script concerns a cop (actor Rafael Tombini) living in a world populated with zombies. Besides contending with the undead, the officer is also in pursuit of a possessed serial killer.

“‘Beyond the Grave’ is very close to an art-house horror film. There is a very personal and mythological universe behind this,” says writer-director Pinheiro. “This is not only a Brazilian take on the zombie genre, this is shaping into something really unexpected, even to us. The script is a mix of everything I love about cinema and fantasy. It’s a movie made with passion, heart and, a la Alejandro Jodorowsky, balls.”
